| Carl Crabtree explains that the Salmon River Weed Management Area was developed about eleven years ago in the Salmon River Canyon in an effort to try to manage weeds based on how weeds grow. Traditionally, they had worked on managing weeds more in terms of property boundaries and ownerships, but they found that the weeds ignored the boundaries and went on anyway, so they thought they had better come up with a different solution on their management. So the idea was to get property owners, particulary larger property owners and managers in the Salmon River Canyon together to determine some goals that they could work on together and that they could agree on together. While they did have differences on the way they wanted to manage the land or their outcomes of the land, they all agreed that the weeds were an issue that needed to be dealt with. So they agreed on some plans of how they could do this together, starting with eradicating weeds that were new to the area or very small populations. Then they went on with larger populations of weeds and tried to develop some strategies together to manage those weeds. So it was kind of a cooperative effort, things they could agree to - they were able to pool some money and resources in terms of people and attack these weeds as a group.
